Kano State Government Proposed for State’s Own Cancer Treatment Center – Health Commissioner.

The Kano State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Kabir Ibrahim-Getso says the state Gov. Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje has proposed to establish the first State’s own Center for the Treatment of Cancer in Nigeria. 

The Commissioner made this known on Tuesday while briefing Newsmen after defending the proposed 2019budget for his Ministry before the Kano State House of Assembly’s committee on Health.

Dr Kabir  added that this center if established, would be the first of its kind own by a state government apart from the six existing ones own by the Federal Government, adding that it will contribute so much towards reducing the challenges face by some cancer patients, especially in the Northern part of the country.

While briefing, on the proposed budget estimate of over N26.7 billion earmarked for the health sector in the 2019, the Commissioner emphasized that the proposed amount will be used to continue to boost the health sector in order to give the people of the state more required attention and also access to a befitting health facilities.

He explained that more health workers will be recruited in 2019, aimed at complimenting the state government efforts towards improving the health sector and also reducing unemployment.

Ibrahim-Getso further disclosed that not less than N3 billion was proposed for the campaign against Malaria, adding that million will be used for the procurement and distribution of treated Mosquito nets.

“We are also going to construct new health facilities and rehabilitate the existing ones so that the patients will have a good atmosphere”, according to the Commissioner.

Also briefing Newsmen,the Chairman of the health committee, and a member representing Gwarzo Constituency Alhaji Rabiu Saleh-Gwarzo said the assembly will ensure that the budget if passed is implemented accordingly.

Saleh-Gwarzo explained that, “it is part of our responsibilities as legislatures to ensure that all Ministries, Departments and Agencies appear before us to defend what  for them.

 Where we think there is the need to reduce the amount we do that and if there is the need to be increased in another area we suggest for that.

Therefore it is also necessary and part of our duties to make sure the budget is used according towhat is proposed in the budget estimate”.
