APC finally loses Zamfara as Supreme Court rules against party

Nigeria’s ruling party, APC, has finally lost its bid to govern Zamfara State for the next four years following a Supreme Court ruling.

An APC governor, Abdulaziz Yari, is the outgoing governor of the state.

The Supreme Court on Friday ruled that the APC did not conduct valid primaries in the build up to the 2019 general elections in Zamfara.

The Supreme Court validated the judgement of the Court of Appeal, Sokoto Division, which ruled that no valid primaries were conducted by the APC in Zamfara State.

The court in a unanimous judgement by a five-member panel on Friday decided that a party that had no valid candidate cannot be said to have emerged winner of the recently conducted general elections.

In an appeal brought by the APC, the apex court ruled against the apellant and ordered a fine of N10 million against the APC.

“Candidate other than the first appellant with the highest vote stand elected. A cost of N10 million is awarded against the appellant,” the court ruled.

The candidate of the APC, Mukhtar Idris, had been declared winner of the elections after he polled 534,541 votes despite controversies trailing his candidacy.

The PDP candidate is believed to have come second in the election and could now be declared the governor-elect in the state.

The ruling also affects all APC Zamfara House of Assembly candidates who were initially declared winners of their elections.

Amosun Blocks Road To Venue of Dapo Abiodun’s Inauguration

On the pretext of road construction, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, not only completely closed the road leading to MKO Abiola Stadium, ABEOKUTA venue of the inauguration of Prince Dapo Abiodun as Governor of Ogun State, he also dug a deep and wide gulley in front of June 12 Cultural Centre, where the inauguration lecture is holding today.

These are contained in a post on the Ogun Daily Core’s whatsApp by Mr Tunde Oladunjoye. He added: “Not done, Amosun left a huge hip of sand and a bulldozer at the entrance. The question is: Would this have happened is it is Amosun’s puppet that is to be inaugurated as Governor?”

However, Yinka Olayemi, a member of the group reacted: “Yes. I told someone yesterday that those attending today’s event will have no choice than to drive through NNPC via Stadium to Cultural Centre.”

“It is over. The outgoing governor can never and never run foul of the Constitution of the country by extending his day in office.”

Also, Femi Oteweso, made another suggestion: “We saw it today too, but we all expressed the opinion that people can take the M.K.O Stadium to access the June 12 Cultural Center for the event.”

Kogi APC Aspirants’ Forum rejects Yahaya Bello for second term, warns Buhari, Oshiomhole

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Aspirants’ Forum, Kogi State chapter, on Monday, rejected the candidature of Governor Yahaya Bello for a second term in office over alleged bad leadership and non-performance.

This was made known in a communique issued by the forum at the end of
its meeting on Monday in Abuja.

The communique signed by its chairman, Mr Ben Adaji, appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari, the National Chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomhole and members of its National Working Committee (NWC) not to give the governorship ticket to Bello.

It added that giving the ticket to Bello to run for a second term would be a risk, saying the party may lose the state to the opposition.

It said Bello had remained adamant in spite of directives by President Muhammadu Buhari to all APC governors to reconcile and accommodate the party`s aspirants after the last primaries.

The communique alleged that Bello had continued to treat Kogi aspirants as enemies and second class citizens in the party they laboured for.

It said the forum had, therefore, resolved to mobilise and support one of its members to contest the forthcoming primaries and the subsequent governorship election slated for November.

It added that after much deliberations and debate, the forum nominated three of its members which included: Alhaji Yahaya Audu, Chief Adedoyin, and Dr Toyin Akanle for the contest.

“At the end of the deliberations, Alhaji Yahaya Audu was unanimously endorsed to contest the forthcoming election,” the communique said.

The also forum used the opportunity to pledge unalloyed support for the President Buhari administration.
