The Ali-Modu Sheriff-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has set up an ad-hoc delegates committee as it prepares to conduct a parallel primary election to pick a candidate for the Edo State gubernatorial election.

Chairman of the committee and former deputy governor of Oyo State, Alhaji Hazeem Gbolarumi, told newsmen at the weekend in Benin that all was set for the conduct of the ad-hoc delegates’ election slated for Monday.

“We have met with some wards and local government chairmen of the PDP ahead of the exercise. We also met with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and have intimated security operatives of our mission in Edo State,” he said.

“Right now, Sheriff is the authentic chairman of the PDP. Whatever they (Makarfi faction) are doing, it is not recognised by INEC. I doubt INEC monitored their primaries. By Monday, we will finish with the ad-hoc committee.

“Then, the screening committee will also do their work. Then, the committee that will conduct the primaries will take it up from there,” he added.
